Episode One - The Word:
Scripture, Creeds and Sermons
The initial series episode explores
how the written and spoken word consisting of scriptures, sermons and creeds
have remembered and celebrated God’s story throughout centuries of
Christianity. Part one
examines the evolving role of scripture in worship as it correlates to changes
in culture and technology, from the hearing of the scriptures as read in the
early church to the translation of the scriptures into the common language and
its mass distribution after the invention of the printing press. During this episode, viewers are
introduced to Jay and Linda Moorman of Beau Verre/Riordan Studios, America’s
oldest continually operating stained glass studio. They discuss how the art form taught scripture to people of
the early church and how stained glass endures as a popular decorative element
in many churches today. Part two
of the first episode explores the spoken word as found in sermons and creeds
and discusses how both forms have been used throughout history to combat false
teachings and heresies, to instruct believers in the essential doctrines of the
Christian faith, and to provide spiritual insight for daily life.
